Summary:

Position Impossible and the Jack of All Trades

Being a master in one area means very little when the set goal shifts away from your expertise.

What good is a master of ground fighting if the fight never goes to the ground? What good is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Black Belt if the contest is governed by Judo ruling? Why would you bring a knife to a gun fight?

Being a Master of Judo has had an amazing impact on my life. It has opened so many doors and allowed me to learn other physical arts at an accelerated rate. It has allowed me to increase my options and flexibility. But mastery by itself, without the catapulting effect, can only aid me in a niche context. My success lies in my ability to step outside my comfort zone and learn the mastery that stems from a Jack of All Trades mentality.

A skill grants functionality largely by its fundamental use. Mastery of that skill, in many instances, is over kill.

We use Martial Arts as a guide to explain the benefits of Mastery and being a Jack of All Trades.
